Inspire. Train. Play.

Umoja Soccer School aims to inspire self-confidence in youth through technical training. Focusing in individual soccer skills and playing as team members with determination and joy. We develop confidence through lessons in accountability, perseverance and teamwork.

Our Roots

Umoja Soccer School was founded in 2018 by Coach Malam Mbarak who wanted to change the way soccer is taught to kids in Toronto. During his work with local youth clubs, academies and sport organizations across GTA, Coach Malam saw the need to bring young players back to the basics of soccer, focusing on individual confidence and skills development through technical training. Malam’s experience with grassroots and competitive level soccer, as well as advanced training in coaching, gives Umoja a focus on developing players natural abilities, resilience and dedication to the game.

What’s in a name?

“Umoja” means “Unity” in the East African language of Swahili. Our founder, Coach Malam Mbarak, grew up on the islands of Zanzibar where soccer brought communities together every day. He developed a love for soccer as a bridge between all people, and a way for individuals to develop themselves as part of a team. The name “Umoja” brings our players, parents and coaches together to inspire the best athlete in everyone.
