Our Mission
At Umoja Soccer School, we inspire self-confidence in youth through high-quality technical training, emphasizing individual skill development, teamwork, and personal growth. We foster a love for the game by creating an inclusive, supportive, and challenging environment where every player can thrive.
Our Story
Founded in 2018 by Coach Malam Mbarak, Umoja Soccer School was built on the vision of transforming how soccer is taught in Toronto. With experience in both grassroots and competitive soccer, Malam recognized the need to return to fundamental technical training—building confidence, resilience, and dedication in young athletes. Today, Umoja provides structured development pathways for players ages 4 to 15, offering both recreational and competitive programs.
What Makes Us Unique?
Unlike traditional clubs, Umoja Soccer School focuses on mastering the fundamentals. Our programs are designed to help players improve their technical skills, tactical awareness, and overall game intelligence. We take the time to get the basics right, ensuring that every child—regardless of experience or skill level—has the tools to succeed in both soccer and life.
We also provide:
✅ Certified coaching Led by a team with Canada Soccer and UEFA certifications.
✅ Competitive & recreational programs Structured player pathways from grassroots to high-level competition.
✅ Community-focused engagement Outreach programs, financial assistance, and volunteer-driven initiatives.
✅ Top training facilities Permitted fields at Lamport Stadium, Fern Ave PS, Howard PS and Toronto West.
What’s in a Name?
“Umoja” means “Unity” in Swahili, reflecting the belief that soccer is a powerful force for bringing people together. Inspired by his upbringing in Zanzibar, Coach Malam saw firsthand how the game could unite communities and help individuals grow. At Umoja, we carry this vision forward—building a family-oriented environment where players, parents, and coaches work together to develop confident, skilled, and well-rounded athletes.
